Betsy Capes founded Capes Coaching in April 2004 after six successful years casting and directing New York theatre. Her mission is simple but ambitious: to create a new type of artist in the entertainment industry -- the empowered and fulfilled creative professional. With the creation of The Path Class, Betsy has helped over 1,000 actors, artists and creative professionals sustain successful careers in the entertainment industry.
Betsy’s professional career started at the Manhattan Theatre Club where she was on the casting team for the critically acclaimed original productions of Proof, The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife, and more. Other casting credits include: Crazy Jane on God and Bridges & Harmonies (The Drama League), Twelfth Night (The Public Theater), The Lion King (Binder Casting), Pacific Overtures (Roundabout Theatre Company), and the national tour of Tick! Tick! Boom!. Directing credits include: Patient A by Lee Blessing, The Loveliest Afternoon of the Year by John Guare, Pvt. Wars by James McLure, Hunter and the Irish Giant by Glen Berger, and Bobby Gould in Hell/No Exit with Shuvi Productions. As an assistant director, Betsy worked with Christopher Ashley on David Lindsay-Abaire's Wonder of the World at MTC. Most recent casting projects include Book of Longing (World Premiere Concert Work by Philip Glass and Leonard Cohen), Where Elephants Weep (A Contemporary Cambodian Opera, Commissioned by Cambodian Living Arts), The Voyage of the Carcass (Stage13), Becoming Adele and Fate’s Imagination (Gotham Stage), and multiple projects for MTV.
Betsy holds a BFA in Acting from the University of Illinois and has done post-graduate work in drama therapy at NYU. She is a member of the International Coaching Federation (ICF), and has presented career planning seminars for The Learning Annex, The Atlantic Theater School, One on One Productions, Manhattan Theatre Source, and Pace University.
