What's your can of spinach?

TL;DR

The creative arts industry is a notoriously tough business.

What actions will you take to stay strong and resilient?

I took my daughter and nieces to a rock climbing gym this weekend.

On the wall they had blown up a great Dr. Steve Maraboli quote:

“It doesn’t get easier, you just get stronger.”

I instantly thought about all of you, and the strength it takes to wake up and do what you do everyday.

I get what an uphill battle this business is.

It takes fierce courage to pursue a career in the arts.

I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know. But when that hard work and relentless effort is getting the better of you, I want to remind you that you have CHOSEN this path.

And yes, there is nothing easy about it.

But here’s the thing: you are still here. And that speaks volumes about who you are and what you care about.

Celebrate what you are doing for yourself and your career. THIS is brave, hard, meaningful work.

So what about those moments when things don’t go the way you had planned? Or when it feels like everything’s happening in slow motion and you’re not making any progress? What gives you that push or resolve to keep going?

Obviously, I’ve built an entire career around addressing these issues on a much larger, holistic scale. But sometimes, like Popeye, you just need a can of spinach to give you a little extra strength to move forward.

For me, this is the time of year when things tend to feel somewhat chaotic and unfocused. And I know exactly what I need — I’m going to commit to that critical breath work that helps me slow down as I navigate my day, and provides the space for me to map things out with clarity. This is what refuels the well I access to support my clients.

What about you?

What’s one thing you can do this week to feel stronger as you work toward your career goals?

I give you the green light to invest this week in those important activities that strengthen your practice. Whatever it takes.
