What I Haven't Told You...

Closing Out the Year with Self-Compassion

Confession: I'm tired. I have always set out to be real with you. And in this moment, that means not putting on the facade of a well-rested, you-can-do-anything-you-set-your-mind-to coach. It means telling you with transparency what I've been working on - and how, frankly, I'm ending this year with some long-overdue time off. Because this Mama is burnt out. (Luckily, I've got some tools to complete this burnout cycle thanks to Emily & Amelia Nagoski and their Burnout Book.)

As many of you know, I've been teaching our signature Path Course for the past 17 years. But what you might not know, is that for the last few years, it's been on my own Path to scale the course toward my vision of something much bigger: online, on-demand, available to everyone, and flush with a Membership Community for you all to finally come together and stay accountable long-term.

As I’m growing my business (and growing as a coach, parent, and wife) I’m learning more and more how crucial it is to prioritize self-compassion. And as 2021 comes to a close, that means showing myself kindness and recommitting to a both/and mentality - aka making space to let multiple things be true at the same time.

We're teaching 'em young! Can't quite say "self-compassion" yet, but curiosity led my two-year-old, Lucy, to pick up this book and flip to a chapter I actually needed to read.

So what's happening behind the proverbial Capes Coaching curtain? I've spent the last 6 months doubling down to build this course and all the elements that it entails, and I am so excited about what's on the horizon. And you know what? It's also kicking my butt. We're scaling Capes Coaching in all the ways: we're actively growing our team, rebranding, revamping curriculum, raising money, building a new website, and pushing way out of my personal comfort zone in terms of technology and the day-to-day running of the business.

This year I learned that I can be a cheerleader, a support system and even an inspiration to my clients... while also being a tired mama of two kids during a pandemic (one of whom is going through a sleep regression). I can be a business owner with exciting things on the horizon while navigating my own feelings of sadness and loss for the things this pandemic has taken from us.

Bottom line: I hope you'll join me in showing up to 2022 with a both/and mentality - making space for it all - rooted in self-compassion, instead of setting the typical resolutions that don't work.

If we seem a bit quiet in January, it's because we're behind that "curtain" working super hard and getting ready for our big course launch coming early next year. While I'm away, I hope you'll get some rest, tend to the seeds you've planted all year, make moves rooted in self-compassion, and take care of your whole self.

Wishing you and yours a wonderful (& healthy!) New Year.
I'll see you soon -
Betsy Capes
