Yes! I mean...No! I mean...???

TL;DR

When you feel like time is running away from you, and things just keep “coming up,” disrupt the tendency to overcommit by asking yourself the question:

Is this thing I'm about to do in support of my goals?

Tis the season to...set some boundaries, my friends :)

Stephen Covey says, “The most effective way to say NO is to have a deep burning YES inside.”

The holidays, in particular, can be a tricky time to set boundaries with ourselves and others. Whether you’re traveling, your family is visiting, you have end-of-the-year work to wrap up, plus all kinds of last minute holiday shopping to do...

I'm exhausted just writing that list!

I don’t need to remind you that you won’t be able to do all the things that need to get done in this busy month of December — but I AM going to remind you that THAT’S OKAY.

In order to create more time for your goals this month, you will need to learn how to say NO to the things that are not in alignment with them. When you feel like time is running away from you, and things just keep “coming up,” disrupt the tendency to overcommit by asking yourself the question:

Is this thing I'm about to do in support of my goals?

It takes bravery to say no — whether in the context of larger decisions like turning down a job that you know in your gut is not the right fit for you, or a decision like saying no to a friend’s invitation to a lunch when you had already blocked out time to work on your music that day.

It’s no one’s business how you choose to spend your time each day, and with some practice, saying no without apology or explanation can become an empowering practice.

So, what do you need to say NO to in order to say YES to your goals this month?

You’ll be surprised what’s possible when you begin to stand strong in each YES/NO commitment you make.

Have a great week!
